Zainab Bahrani, “Introducing Mapping Mesopotamian Monuments”

We invite you to join us as we celebrate the opening of Mapping Mesopotamian Monuments (MMM), a quadrilingual resource, to the public. Envisioned and directed by Professor Zainab Bahrani, MMM is a topographical survey of historical monuments, and architecture in the region from Iraqi Kurdistan and southeastern Anatolia (Turkey) to southern Iraq. A work in progress, the survey covers all historical periods—from ancient Mesopotamian rock reliefs carved into cliff faces to twentieth-century architecture—and encourages you to explore the multiple layers of the rich historical landscape of Mesopotamia. Detailed descriptions and bibliographies of each site, in Arabic, English, Kurdish, and Turkish, accompany the database of images, 360-degree immersive panoramas, and 3D renderings. This new resource, hosted by the Media Center for Art History at Columbia University, is now open to scholars, students, and the interested public around the world.
